KALAIGAON: After two years of pandemic-related restrictions, residents of Kalaigaon are gearing up to celebrate the Raax festival with pomp and gaiety.
The countdown for the 11-day-long Raax Mahotsav has already begun, which will be celebrated from November 8 to November 18 at the premises of Kalaigaon Raax Mandir. People have started to throng the shops and markets of Kalaigaon town. Even the celebration committees have started to decorate their Raax mandaps in different themes with installation of several idols of gods and goddesses.
The Kalaigaon Raax Committee has also started the preparation with a budget of Rs 20 lakh this year. For smooth conduct of the Raax festival, a celebration committee of 151 members was formed, headed by EM Diganta Barua as president and Arupjyoti Sharania as secretary, in a general meeting recently. People from all communities took part in the general meeting as a symbol of social harmony, along with members of student organizations of Kalaigaon, and they assured to celebrate the festival unitedly. Moreover, 15 sub-committees have also been formed for smooth conduct of the festival. A souvenir will be also published on the occasion.
