Raid against single-use plastic in Kokrajhar town

A raid operation of prohibition of production, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic items is being carried out by KMB

KOKRAJHAR: A raid operation of prohibition of production, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic items is being carried out by Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) and Pollution Control Board, Kokrajhar in Kokrajhar town as per the instruction of Pollution Control Board, Assam.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Kokrajhar Municipal Board led by Pratibha Brahma, Chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board, Executive Officer and Pollution Control Board, Kokrajhar. The officials of the Pollution Control Board, Bongaigaon also joined the raid.

During the operation cups and plates, spoons, carry bags, ear buds, balloons sticks, flags, candy sticks, cigarette packets, PvC banners, thermocol plates, straws and other items made of plastics which are less than 75 microns were seized from the shopkeepers and penalties have been imposed.

As per official sources from KMB, 352 kg single-use plastics had been seized from five vendors of Kokrajhar town. The shop owners namely Raju Aich, Ramkrishna Paul, Ranjan Paul, Sanjib Saha and Dilip Saha were fined for violating the government order and a sum of Rs 27,000 was collected from them.
