Raids continue in six Excise Circles of Tinsukia district

TINSUKIA: An Excise raid in coordination with the Digboi police was conducted against illicit liquor in six Excise Circles on Wednesday. The Excise Circles where the raids were conducted were Margherita, Sadiya, Digboi, Doom Dooma and Dhola.

The Enforcement team led by Aktar Hussain Barbhuyan, Deputy Superintendent of Excise Margherita and Sadiya Circle under the supervision of Pranta Pratim Patra, Executive Magistrate, Margherita, conducted the raids at Beganbari, Tingrai, No.1 Assamese Gaon, Hakum Pukhuri, No.1,2 & 3 Borbil, Balijan, Ramnagar and Borjan areas located under the Digboi Police Station.

The team seized and destroyed about 8,000 litres of fermented wash, 500 litres of illicit distilled liquor, 54.60 BL of beer, 34.40 BL of IMFL, 300 kilograms of molasses and 15 sets of distillation apparatus.

Altogether, 21 cases were detected; and, a fine of Rs 28,000 has been also realised, stated the SDIPRO of Margherita.

PROHIBITION ON LALIGUR: The Tinsukia District Magistrate has issued an order prohibiting the sale, transportation, manufacture, storage and distribution of liquid jaggery or molasses (laligur) without permission from district administration throughout Tinsukia district with immediate effect.

According to the order, permission from the Tinsukia district Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department will be mandatory if someone wishes to buy 'laligur' even as cattle fodder. In this regard, the consumer will have to produce the necessary information to the authorities concerned, stated the order.

The order was issued following allegations of large-scale illegal trade of liquid jaggery or molasses (locally known as 'laligur') being carried out by unscrupulous elements for the preparation of illicit liquor (sulai) and also to ensure the safety of human health,

'FAKE' DOCTOR ARRESTED: Bordubi police arrested a 'fake' doctor from Bazalani TE (Tea Estate) near Makum on Monday night after he was asked to report at Langkashi OP (outpost) following a tipoff.

Identified as physiotherapist Sanjeeb Kumar Deb (45) of Sapekhati , he had been serving in Bazalani & Rajgarh Ali TEs for the past four years by fraudulently using the registration number of a Guwahati-based woman doctor.

The manager of Rajgarh Ali TE stated that Das had reportedly worked in several tea gardens earlier; and, he was appointed in this garden based on his past experiences.

A case has been registered in Bordubi Police Station in this regard. Subsequently, the Court sent him to judicial custody.
