HAFLONG: The travelling train passengers particularly at New Haflong station are facing utter inconvenience due to lack of proper passengers' amenities at the station, alleged the conscious citizens of Dima Hasao.

The people of Dima Hasao were very much happy as the railway authority converted the century-old Lumding-Silchar Meter Gauge to Broad Gauge (BG) with the hope that BG would be a great help for the people in general in regards to safe and speedy communications. But to the contrary to their expectation, they have to suffer a lot in absence of proper passengers' amenities not only at New Haflong but also at stations like Maibang, Harangajao, Mahur etc. The people of Maibang, Sub-Divisional HQ have been demanding foot overbridge and other amenities including reservation counter etc. for long but remained unheard till date. In absence of foot overbridge at Maibang several human lives have been lost in runover incidents.

At New Harangajao, the low elevation of the platform is the prime cause of concern as the passengers at New Harangajao often face difficulties while alighting from the train for low elevation of the platform.

New Haflong Station being the most important station has been lacking in many fronts for the reasons best known to the railway authority. Presently the station is not having a coach identification system for which the travelling passengers are forced to run hither and thither while boarding their specified reserved coaches. The stoppages of important trains are also less at New Haflong causing inconvenience to the passengers. The people of Dima Hasao have appealed to provide basic passengers' amenities at railway stations considering service to mankind.
