Rajkanya Baruah Accident Case: Senior Doctor Navanil Baruah Granted Bail

Sources said that police of Dispur district have arrested Dr Navanil for allegedly helping former Miss India finalist Rajkanya Baruah by providing her fake medical report and admitting her to Semi-ICU at GNRC hospital.

Dr Navanil was booked under Section IPC 201/212/120(b) Case No. 370/21. However, he was granted bail as all the cases against him is bailable offences.

As per reports, Dr Baruah allegedly helped accused Rajkanya Baruah in admitting her into a Semi-ICU unit of a private hospital in Guwahati. On Friday, the neurologist was interrogated by Guwahati Police for 12 hours. He also underwent a medical test at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) later.

Initially, he claimed that he didn't know Rajkanya Baruah, but, their WhatsApp chats proved otherwise. "I didn't even know her (Rajkanya Baruah). I was not trying to save her," Dr Baruah had said at Dispur Police Station while replying to queries of media. Baruah further stated that Rajkanya Baruah threatened him to admit her in ICU or else she will commit suicide in the hospital. "She messaged me in WhatsApp to admit her in ICU," he said to police during the investigation.

Earlier, cty Police added during the continuous interrogation of Dr Navanil Baruah – a senior doctor of a city-based private hospital – it has come to light that Rajkanya had sent WhatsApp messages to Dr Baruah threatening to commit suicide if she was not admitted in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of that hospital. Dr Baruah also had telephonic talks with the State DGP (Director General of Police) regarding this case before admitting her in ICU.
