Guwahati: On Tuesday, Assam's former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal filed his nomination from Assam for the Rajya Sabha by-polls. The nomination was filed in the presence of Assam's current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Legislative Assembly in Dispur.
Sarbananda Sonowal has been nominated for the by-polls by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The by-election is scheduled to be held on October 4.
The former CM Sarbananda Sonowal is currently the Union Minister of AYUSH and Ports, Shipping and Waterways under the central government.
Sonowal was nominated after the Rajya Sabha seat from Assam fell vacant after the resignation of BJP member Biswajit Diamary who is the current Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
