GOLAGHAT: Rangajan Tea Estate of Khetan Group has been carrying out alleged encroachment by plantation of tea saplings in the huge area of Nambor Reserve Forest. It came to light few days earlier that Rangajan Tea Estate had allegedly illegally captured Nambor Forest land and started turmeric cultivation in the forest land. After that the tea estate planted tea saplings by covering a huge area in the Nambor Reserve Forest.

Interestingly, these illegal activities are going on under the nose of the forest officials of Golaghat Divisional Forest. The alleged encroachment and illegal activities carried out by Rangajan Tea Estate of Khetan group in Nambor reserve forest are causing disturbance and threatening the natural movement and behavior of the wild animals in Nambor reserve forest.

A huge area about 300 acre land of Nambor reserve forest has allegedly been encroached upon by Rangajan Tea Estate for planting tea saplings. The tea company had cut down precious trees and removed jungles for tea plantation. At first the tea estate carried out turmeric cultivation by covering huge area of Nambor forest and now the tea estate has started tea plantation in the forest. Besides, big drains have been dug so that wild elephants cannot enter the tea garden area, which are acting as a huge physical barrier to the movement of the wild animals.

Due to encroachment of Nambor forest land, the habitat area of wild animals has decreased and they have started to come out of the forest to human habitat areas. Consequently, the human-elephant conflict has increased in villages near Nambor Reserve Forest. The conscious people of Golaghat have sought immediate intervention to save Nambor reserve forest from illegal encroachment.
