Rangapara College celebrates Rongali Bihu

RANGAPARA: Rangapara College fraternity celebrated Rongali Bihu on April 20, that is the sixth day of the Assamese new year, which is also celebrated as Sera Bihu throughout the region.

The celebration started with a cleanliness drive by the students of Rangapara College followed by flag hosting by the Principal of Rangapara College, Dr Ranjan Kalita. The main celebration started from 1:30 pm where Deba Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur district, joined as the chief guest. Commanding Officer, Col. Sebastian Jakharia and Col. Nandan, both from the Dogra Regiment, Rangapara Sonitpur, joined the celebration as special guests with their better halves. Nishinath Sharma, Block development officer, Rangapara also joined the celebration.

The open arena arranged in the college field was inaugurated by Baap Dinesh Mahanta, who is the president of Mohapurush Sankardeva Naamdharma Samaj, Assam. Students from Mercy Student Home, an orphanage adopted by Rangapara College, also joined the occasion as special invitees. Two invited Bihu teams, namely Jaajiporiya Bihua Dol from Sivasagar and Bihoguri Kalita Gaon Anchalik Semonia Dol from Sonitpur, performed in front of the gathering. The Bodo community students of the college also performed the Bagarumba dance, mesmerizing the audience. The function ended with Bihu performance by the college family.
