GUWAHATI: Assam State BJP President Ranjeet Kumar Dass today submitted his nomination papers from Patacharkuchi constituency. He was accompanied by Assam Chef Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP National Vice President and Assam In-Charge Baijayant Jay Panda.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Patacharkuchi, Sonowal tweeted, "Great enthusiasm at the Padyatra in Patacharkuchi today as Shri RanjeetkrDass filed his nomination papers for the Assembly polls. I thank the people for their massive presence and support towards BJP4India."

It needs to be mentioned here that Dass was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly MLA from Sorbhog in Barpeta district in 2011. However, the party has fielded him at Patacharkuchi in this election instead of Sorbhog.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Phani Pathak resigned from the primary membership of the party on March 13, as he was allegedly denied election ticket at the last moment and Dass was provided ticket to contest from the constituency.

In a press conference Pathak claimed that he has immense contribution towards the constituency but sadly the party chief did not even meet him after assigning the ticket to the BJP President Dass.

Dass is pitted against Shantanu Sarma who will contest on a Congress ticket from Patacharkuchi constituency.

In poll-bound Assam, today is the last day of withdrawal of the nomination of the second phase. Polling for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6 in three phases.

Assam will face a triangular contest in the upcoming elections, while BJP has allied with AGP and UPPL, the Congress has forged a 'grand-alliance' or 'Mahajoot' with the AIUDF and Assam Gana Morcha, BPF and other left parties. The state will witness the rising of the regional party alliance of Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal (RD) gearing up to make their electoral debut in the state.
