LAKHIMPUR: Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu, Minister of Education, Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes (non-BTC), assessed the COVID-19 situation in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts on Friday.
In this connection, the minister at first in Lakhimpur took part in a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Khageswar Pegu along with other officers of the district administration and Health Department. In the meeting, he reviewed the measures taken to control the rapid surge of the COVID-19 cases in the district and other issues related to the pandemic.
Then he inspected the final stage construction work of the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH). He stated that the LMCH could be formally inaugurated either in the first or in the second week of the month of June. Further, the minister visited the COVID-19 wards of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. He informed that the State Government would supply 16 beds with oxygen cylinder facility (MGPS) very soon to the COVID-19 wards of the hospital.
Then the minister visited Dhemaji district and held COVID-19 assessment meeting with the district administration in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B. He then inspected Dhemaji District Civil Hospital to take stock of the pandemic scene and the preparedness to combat the pandemic in terms of manpower, other facilities and adequate medical supplies. In Dhemaji, the minister also inspected Silapathar Model Hospital. In view of rising COVID-19 positive cases in Dhemaji, a COVID-19 ward with 30 beds with oxygen facility was readied in the Model Hospital.
