TANGLA: A rape accused was allegedly shot dead in police custody in Orang of Udalguri district while he tried to flee on Wednesday. According to reports, the accused, Rajesh Munda, who had allegedly raped and killed a 7-year-minor girl on March 10 while the victim was on the way to attend a wedding ceremony and later on March 11, the victim's body was recovered from a crematorium in Dhansiri TE in Udalguri district.
The Mazbat police after investigation had launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused who was apprehended from an iron scrap factory of Changsari in Kamrup on Tuesday. The personnel of Lalpani Police Outpost and Mazbat Police Station had taken the accused Rajesh Munda in a police vehicle to lead the police team to the place of incident and as per police sources, he "suddenly tried to escape from custody". So he was shot at and later he succumbed to bullet injuries. Despite repeated attempts by this correspondent, Udalguri Police officials could not be reached for comments.
