KOKRAJHAR: Former members of the disbanded National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) from all factions on Monday demanded release of the founder of the NDFB, Ranjan Daimary from jail as early as possible or to shift him from the congested room at 10 APBn Headquarter at Kahilipara in Guwahati.

The former members of the outfit expressed resentment over the poor facility provided to him in Kahilipara where he has been lodged in a congested room since July 22. In a press conference held at PWD Guest House, Kokrajhar, the secretary of the Coordination Committee of Ex-NDFB Welfare Association, Abhiram Basumatary alias B.Anjalu said that the founder chairman of the NDFB, Ranjan Daimary was brought to the HQ of 10 APBn, Kahilipara on the night of July 22 without informing any member of the family or members of the association and he was kept in a small and congested room. He said that the family members came to know about the change of location only on July 27. He said that Daimary was one of the signatories of the BTR Peace Accord signed on January 27, 2020 and as a signatory, he should have been released from jail to participate in the rebuilding of peace and development of the region. He also said that they were waiting for his release from jail as the people of the region wanted the government to set him free as a signatory of the peace agreement which, otherwise, was meaningless.

Anjalu said that they had pursued the government for releasing him from jail but no step had been initiated. The government released him for around a month to sign the BTR peace agreement in 2020 and put him in jail again after the peace accord was signed. He warned that they would be compelled to raise voice against the pathetic attitude of the government towards a signatory of the peace agreement in a democratic way in the days to come.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the former NDFB members belonging to all factions under the banner of the coordination committee was also held to discuss the issue of Ranjan Daimary.
