Religious bodies asked to ensure strict adherence to COVID protocols

KOKRAJHAR: In view of public safety against the COVID -19 pandemic and in pursuance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) issued by the Government of Assam, the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Chirang, has ordered the Management Committees of all the religious places in respect of Chirang district to ensure entry of only 60 fully vaccinated persons per hour for iconic places and 40 fully vaccinated persons per hour for other religious places to offer prayers. It has also asked the puja committees to allow entry of only the fully vaccinated pilgrims into the puja mandaps. They have been also asked to ensure all COVID-19 related protocols like social distancing, wearing of face masks, use of sanitizers, washing of hands, etc by the pilgrims.

"Responsibility of maintenance of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour at all religious places will solely lie on the management committees and failure to do so will be viewed very seriously as per relevant sections of the law," the order further said and informed that it was issued in exercise of powers conferred under section 30 and section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
