SILCHAR: Cachar district on the whole has shown decline in COVID cases and the situation is improving gradually. People now are looking for relaxation in curfew hours. Still, there are some areas which call for attention and action. One such is the village of Karjanbasti under Jirighat police station facing Manipur border, 25 km from Lakhipur sub division. The village in question has come under the grip of the COVID pandemic where 10 persons have been found positive. In order to prevent further spread of the virus, the entire village has been declared containment zone on Wednesday.
The remotely located village of tribal and non tribal, is home to 20 families only with greenery all around. So long the village has been free from any case of COVID. How could it be affected then? Circle Officer, Jonathan Vaiphai, is trying to find it out.
In the meantime, the residents of the village virtually under siege have been provided ration relief of Rs 2,000 only per family as mandated by COVID 19 rules. Circle Officer was assisted by social workers, Sanjoy Thakur, Gunjan Kar and Jainul Haque Choudhury in the distribution of ration and other materials.
The report from SMCH as released by Dr Bhaskar Gupra, vice-principal, this evening does indicate improvement in COVID situation. At 5pm, 89 patients are in active condition, 59 in ICU, 10 on ventilation support, 30 in COVID ward and 70 on oxygen support. During the last 24 hours, 10 patients were admitted and 6 discharged. The release however has information about two patients who died of COVID. They are Kalyan Kumar Deb (65) of Udharbond and Kartik Goala of Badribasti, both from Cachar.
