TINSUKIA: Bijoy Kumar Mazumdar, renowned academician, writer, social worker and journalist passed away at his Makum’s Sankardev Nagar residence in Tinsukia district on Sunday night. He was 74. Born at Abhayapuri Goan under Sibsagar district’s Amguri Police Station, late Majumdar studied at Sapekhati High School, Tinsukia College and taught at Bangiya Sishu Vidyalaya, Margherita Khelmati Adarsha Vidyalaya and finally retired from GBC HS School Makum in 2001. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Mazumdar authored several books and contributed literary articles in vernacular newspapers. During 1980s he presented as many as 53 radio talks from AIR Dibrugarh. He was secretary of Axom Xahitya Xabha, Makum branch, district president of Shikshak-Karmachari Parishad, Makum Press Club, Sashtri Nagar High School, GBC HS School, Sankarvnagar Samaj Unnayan Samiti etc. Various socio-cultural organizations including educational institutions, Tinsukia Press Club condoled his demise.
