The Government of Assam has decided to review its plans to reopen primary
schools from December 1, 2020.
Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, all the educational
institutes were shut from March 15, 2020.
The closure of schools in the states of north and west
India due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 has forced the Assam government
to review its plans of reopening classes for primary schools.
Even though the Assam government is prepared to reopen
primary schools but after Gujarat, Haryana, and Mumbai had to reverse their
decision, Assam Government is now carefully reviewing its plan.
Top officials in the state education department said
the government is seriously reviewing the impact of COVID-19 on schools in the
state, where several cases had been reported since the official reopening of
some educational institutions on November 2, 2020.
According to a media report, B Kalyan Chakravarthy,
principal secretary to the education department said the situation is being
reviewed in the case of Assam and the education department will stay very
cautious.
However, the classes for the upper primary to the
post-graduation level were reopened from November 2, 2020. Although there are
some guidelines to follow.
The education department of the state has not disclosed
the number of COVID-19 positive cases among students and staff.
Sources have also stated that the government cannot
make any decisions until district-wise data is received.
