Repair work to be conducted in RHEP: NEEPCO

LAKHIMPUR: North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has released water from the Ranganadi Dam from Saturday in order to de-water the reservoir of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant(RHEP).

As per report, water was released from the dam site due to shutdown through its radial gate No. 3, opening it by 150mm from 3.15pm and by 200mm from 5.15pm. It is known that a total plant shutdown programme of the RHEP has been scheduled till April 30 and keeping this in view, NEEPCO has decided to release the water from the dam.

As per a circular served by the Senior Manager (Civil), Hydro-structure (Management) of RHEP, the total plant shutdown is necessary to attend to some important repair work at various locations of the plant – powerhouse, surge shaft gates, tunnel, intake, dam gates etc.

The inflow of the Ranganadi river shall have to be diverted from entering into the tunnel and the same shall be released downstream by opening of the Radial Gates of the dam. The same circular states that the dewatering of the reservoir may take a maximum of four days during which one cumec of water in addition to natural river inflow shall have to be released. After this, normal river inflow will continue during the entire shutdown period.
