Rescued female rhino calf passes away in Kaziranga National Park

The female rhino calf was found stuck in a pool of mud created by the monsoon flood in Assam

Guwahati: In a tragic development, a female rhino that was rescued by authorities at the Kaziranga National Park on Monday passed away from several ailments, said officials.

Park authorities said that the female rhino calf who was found alone, was weak with anemia and hypoglycemia. Although the calf was being treated for these ailments at Kaziranga, she finally passed away on Tuesday (August 18).

Guwahati: "A female rhino calf which was rescued on 15/08/2020 succumbed to its disease on 17/08/2020 at 9.00 PM. The rhino was weak and debiliated with anaemia and hypoglycemia. Treatment was continued from day one of rescue. But at last yesterday evening, it succumbed to its disease", read a tweet posted by the official Twitter handle of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

A joint team of park rangers and Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) on India's 74th Independence Day rescued a one-year-old female rhino calf near the Dahgaon village in Assam.

As per reports, the female rhino calf was found stuck in a pool of mud created by the monsoon flood in Assam. The rescued calf was kept under observation at the CWRC in the park, a wildlife care facility of Assam Forest Department and Wildlife Trust of India.
