TINSUKIA: Resentment prevailed among the staff & workers of Care North East Foundation-an NGO and service provider engaged by Tinsukia Municipal Board for collection and disposal of solid waste after the NGO denied monthly salary for months together even as there was no dearth of revenue generated from door-to-door collection.

According to NGO workers, they were paid a meagre of Rs 3500 in past 3 months instead of Rs 7500 per month while they used to deposit an average of Rs 40,000 per month per Ward to the NGO office. It is irony that the NGO management even allegedly threatened to lay off the workers whenever they demanded their legitimate salary saying that there were plenty of persons waiting in queue to accept the job. They have also alleged excessive workload and allegedly being exploited by the management which has a total workforce of 120 persons lamenting further that they had to sustain their families by selling discarded bottles and other waste items as other means of earning.

A TMB source informed that the NGO- Care North East Foundation allegedly failed to maintain financial transparency and did not submit proper accounts to TMB for which it was lambasted in the TMB's last Board meeting. Even Tinsukia district administration that oversees the functioning of TMB expressed displeasure on the nature of work undertaken by the NGO. This correspondent attempted to contact Dr Sanjay Gupta director of Care North East Foundation for his comments but he did not respond.
