MORIGAON: The ethnic Nath-Yogi community has nine organizations in Assam to raise voice for the community’s rights. These nine organizations have opposed the demand by the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to reserve the Morigaon constituency for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The nine organizations, including the Asom Pradeshik Yogi Sanmiloni, Asom Pradeshik Yogi Mahila Sanmiloni, Asom Nath Yogi Yuba Parishad, Nath Sahitya Sabha, Asom Pradeshik Yogi Puruhit Sanmiloni, and Nath Yogi Upgrahiya Autonomous Parishad Dabi Samiti – said that the decision to reserve the Morigaon constituency for ST was mysterious. They said that it is clear that the ethnic community will face existential crisis if the decision to make the Morigaon constituency reserved for ST is implemented.

The organizations said that the Nath-Yogi ethnic community had been neglected politically, economically and socially in Assam. They also said that the Nath-Yogi community had the largest number of voters in seven assembly constituencies and two parliamentary constituencies of Assam. The leaders of the organizations said that they would not allow the Morigaon constituency to be reserved for ST. They urged the State BJP to desist from taking such a hasty decision.
