Residence of Suspended DIG Rounak Ali Hazarika Raided in Guwahati

Guwahati: The house of Rounak Ali Hazarika, the imprisoned Deputy Inspector General (DIG), was searched by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell on Monday.

The raid was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Hitesh Thakuria and took place in the presence of a government-registered appraiser. According to sources, the goal of the search was to establish the worth of the controversial police officer's property.

According to reports, the investigating vigilance cell allegedly did not find Rounak Hazarika's property data attached during his detention adequate.

Earlier in October, sleuths from the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) interviewed two persons for depositing cash in the bank accounts of detained IPS officer Rounak Ali Hazarika, who has been in judicial custody since Saturday for possessing excessive assets.

The Special Judge kept Rounak Ali Hazarika in judicial custody for 14 days, with explicit permission granted to the CM's SVC to interview him within the jail. Officials from the CM's SVC widened their eyes after receiving Rounak Ali Hazarika's bank information. There have been reported cash transfers from a number of anonymous sources. The CM's SVC is anticipated to phone a large number of individuals to arrange for cash to be placed in Hazarika.

In addition to that, an account with the State Bank of India, the IPS officer and his family have accounts with Axis Bank, Yes Bank, and other institutions (SBI). Large quantities of money were placed when he was posted to Bongaigaon from 2019 to 2021.

Hazarika was held by the CM's SVC on October 5 in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case. On July 20, this year, Hazarika, the Assam Police's DIG of Border Wing, was relieved of his duties for taking several overseas trips without the government's permission. During the examination, it was determined that from 1992 to 2021, Hazarika had immovable and movable assets in excess of his known sources of income. Hazarika has also spent Rs 1,74,12,974 on his two children's schooling up to this point.
