SARUPATHAR: Annoyed over the dilapidated condition of the rural roads in Koroighat under Dhansiri subdivision, connecting via Sarupathar to Golaghat, residents of the area staged a protest against the dilapidated condition of roads and blamed the local MLA of 94-Sarupathar constituency and PWD authorities.

The residents alleged that it has been over seven-and- half years that the local MLA and the PWD authorities have been making false claims of repairing the roads, but nothing has been done at ground level. The condition of the roads has worsened because about 600 dumpers ply through this route daily and carry stones from the Dayang River along the Assam-Nagaland border. The residents have also restricted the movement of heavy vehicles like dumpers as potholes on the roads lead to frequent accidents. A resident also lamented that due to the poor condition of the rural roads, there is no 108 ambulance service in the area. The condition of the roads in Dhansiri subdivision in Golaghat the district has worsened over the years, posing a serious threat to commuters. Knee-deep potholes have developed in most of the roads and lack of proper footpath result in frequent accidents. But this problem is yet to attract the attention of the PWD authorities and local MLA of 94-Sarupathar constituency.
