Revenue official arrested in Lakhimpur for forgery and cheating

LAKHIMPUR: One official of the Revenue Department along with one more person has been arrested in Lakhimpur for forgery and cheating. They have been identified as Nandan Kumar Borah, Senior Assistant, who has been currently posted in North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, and Deba Krishna Dutta, resident of KB Road in Lakhimpur town.

A team of police personnel from North Lakhimpur Police Station arrested them on Sunday night as per formal complaint filed by Meenakshi Permey, Circle Officer North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, Hiren Dutta, Supervisor Kanungo, and Sumon Manchekhun, Lat Mandal, North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle in context of passing a field mutation case. In this connection, a case was vide No. 637/2022 under sections 120(B)/420/468/471/409 of Indian Penal Code was registered at North Lakhimpur Police Station. Police produced them before the court on Monday and took them for three days' remand.

Police source said that Deba Krishna Dutta filed the field mutation case at Office of the North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, bearing No. LAK/UTT/2022-23/55501/FMUT. Regarding the case, Dutta applied a deed with a fake registration deed No:-506895/2015, deed value:-2006250 and deed date:- 04/12/15 under the influence of the arrested Senior Assistant. The Senior Assistant was aware that the deed was unregistered and he had also taken cash from Deba Krishna Dutta in exchange of the work. However, process was immediately started for cancellation of the said mutation case when the forgery and cheating came in notice as per report.
