Rhino Horn Burning Ceremony: PM Modi Says Commendable Effort by Team Assam

GUWAHATI: In a one of a kind for the country. A total of 2479 horns of single-horned Rhinos have burned in its first-of-its-kind event to put an end to poaching in Assam.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was present to lead the fiction which was naked with a puja ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated the Chief Minister and people of Assam on their historic step. He tweeted:

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the function was held to give a message to the world that there is no medicinal value of the rhino horns.

He further added that burning horns would give a strong message to the world that any seized drug would earn revenue hence the move is to send a strong message against such illegal practice.

The biggest-ever stockpile of rhino horns was consigned to flames at Bokakhat on World Rhino Day amidst the chanting of hymns and the blowing of conch shells to dispel the myths associated with rhino horns.
