Rich tribute paid to Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi

MANGALDAI: Synchronizing with the statewide 134th birth anniversary celebration of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, citizens of Mangaldai also offered their floral homage to this ‘Saviour of Assam’.

At a simple function on the banks of the historic Borpukhuri in Mangaldai town at 6.30 pm on Tuesday, jointly organized by Darrang Divas Celebration Committee and Mangaldai Media Circle, District Development Commissioner Pankaj Deka inaugurated the celebration by lighting an earthen lamp before the portrait of ‘Lokapriya’ and offered floral tribute.

In his speech, Pankaj Deka recalled the historic role of the ‘Bharat Ratna’ in protecting the integrity and honour of Assam in a very critical juncture. He also appealed all sections, particularly the younger generation, to follow the life and works of the ‘Bharat Ratna’. Vice-chairperson of Assam State Women Commission, Nilima Devi also took part in the celebration and recalled the immense contribution and courageous role of this worthy son of the motherland.

Vice-president of Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce, Birendra Kumar Barua, media persons Mayukh Goswami, Hemanta Kumar Barua, Hitesh Hazarika and social activist Kunja Bala Devi, and others also took part in the celebration.
