Rich tribute paid to educationist Saif Uddin Ahmed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Rich tributes were paid to senior lawyer and educationist Saif Uddin Ahmed at a meeting held at Rohinikanta Baruah Law College recently.

Ninety-two-year-old Ahmed passed away at his residence near Dibru College because of old-age ailments on November 13. An ace debater, Prof Saifuddin Ahmed joined Dibru College as professor in the Department of Economy but after 17 years of successful teaching career, Ahmed joined as a lawyer in Dibrugarh Bar Association. Ahmed got his law degree from Earl Law College while he was pursuing his postgraduation in Economics in Gauhati University. A die-hard social activist, Saifuddin Ahmed is survived by his son Dr Ashif Ahmed Alhaidori and daughter, Nazmi Ayesha Ahmed, Additional District Judge at Sivasagar Court, besides his wife and other family members.

The condolence meeting, organized by the Dibrugarh Islamic Studies Centre in association with Dibrugarh Bar Association and family members of Ahmed, was presided over by one of the seniormost members of Dibrugarh Bar Association, Ashim Dutta. The meeting was addressed by prominent personalities like president of Dibrugarh Bar Association, Ajit Borgohain, senior advocate Shyamal Seal, Principal DHSK College, Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, former principal of Bangmibar Nilmoni High School, Sahir Ahmed, and senior journalist I Ahmed, who in their respective speeches, highlighted Ahmed's contribution to the various fields of society and their sweet memoirs with Ahmed. The speakers emphasized upon Saifuddin Ahmed's broad outlook and cohesive social nature and urged upon all to follow it. Saheriar Sultan read out the condolence resolution while Imran Hussain offered the vote of thanks.
