Rich tribute paid to football player and UBPO leader Deben Narzary

LAKHIMPUR: The commemoration programme to pay rich tribute to State-level football player, and United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) leader Deben Narzary was held on Wednesday at his residence at Dhekidal village under Ghoramari area of the Sonitpur district.

Deben Narzary was the central committee executive member of the UBPO, treasurer of the Sonitpur district committee of the UBPO, former president of the Goroimari regional unit of the UBPO, founder president of the Goroimari Bathou Club, founder organizer of Ghoramari Sports Association and an efficient football player. He met with immature death in May.

The UBPO informed this correspondent that in the commemoration programme, held on the occasion of his adya shraddha, dignitaries and members of Sonitpur district UBPO, Ghoramari regional committee, Tezpur regional committee, Ghoramari regional committee of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) Ghoramari Regional Sports Association, Tezpur District Sports Association, Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural Project took part and paid rich tribute to him expressing grief at his demise.

On the other hand, UBPO central committee president Manuranjan Basumatary ceremonially released the souvenir, published by the organization on Deben Narzary’s life and works. Rangapara MLA Krishna Kamal Tanti, while speaking on the occasion, said that Deben Narzary was a State-level football player, an efficient sport organizer, an honest and courageous social worker, who contributed a lot to the field of sports. He declared that a football tournament would be held in his fond memory.

Executive Member of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) Anil Basumatary, president of Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural Project Prasanta Das also delivered speech eulogizing and appreciating the remarkable contributions rendered by Deben Narzary in various fields. UBPO general secretary Pitambar Braha, adviser Sukreswar Goyary, vice-president Lalit Chandra Brahma, were among those who were present in the event.
