GUWAHATI: On Tuesday 19 April, the former APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) President addressed a press conference along with other Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders.

In a press conference, Bora openly spoke about his issues with the Congress party and also cleared why he decided to resign from the party.

Moreover, the new TMC member also shared his upcoming plans for Assam with the TMC party led by Mamata Banerjee.

Bora stated that he has earlier informed Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi regarding his decision to quit the party and Rahul Gandhi offered him best wishes for the new journey.

He also confirmed the reports about continuous and massive infighting between the Congress leaders. The party is busy fighting among themselves instead of fighting the BJP party said, Bora.

He continued by saying that he had no personal issues with Congress but from an ideological point if he stays there he can do nothing and will be simply wasted in the party.

The former Congress president clarified that he has no grievances against the grand old party or its leaders but he has resigned on some policies and ideological issues.

Bora in his resignation letter addressing Congress chief Sonia Gandhi alleged that there are many Congress leaders in Assam that are working in association with BJP mainly with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On speaking with the media about the matter, Bora stated that the way the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has grown by this time, has threatened the social fabric of the nation.

According to Ripun Bora, Congress being the grand old party should have been successful in fighting the BJP but it is unable to do so because of the fighting among its own members.

He added 'I am convinced only TMC can fight BJP' and claims that TMC can stop BJP as it has fought very well in West Bengal defeating the ruling party.

Bora praised TMC chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee saying that she has held numerous portfolios including the position of CM and Union Cabinet Minister.

He said that Banerjee is fighting BJP to save the democracy and TMC can stop BJP because of which he joined the party. Bora concluded by stating that TMC is now in the initial stage in Assam and soon it will become Assam Trinamool Congress.
