River Noa overflows due to incessant rains; Kalaigaon town flooded

River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle has overflowed due to incessant rains and several villages have been flooded.

KALAIGAON: River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle has overflowed due to incessant rains and several villages have been flooded. The affected villages are Rupatal, Bhehguri, Gerua, Sagunbahi, Balipara, No.2 Shingrimari, Garubandha along with a part of Kalaigaon town.

Flood-affected people said that they demanded immediate repair of the damaged embankment of Noa River which was ravaged by floods in 2022. Crops were destroyed and several houses were under knee deep water. People alleged that the authority concerned did not take necessary steps to get the embankment repaired. As a result, due to incessant rains since the past 24 hours, the Noa overflowed and flooded these areas this year again.

According to reports, more than 15 villages are under the grip of floods for the past 24 hours in Kalaigaon revenue circle. In the Kalaigaon area, Noa River has overflown due to heavy rainfall for the past 24 hours resulting in flash floods. Water entered several houses and about 50 families have not been able to cook their meals on Sunday. Moreover, the embankment along River Noa has given way under the mounting pressure of flood water and it was breached at No. Shingrimari. The Mangaldai-Bhutiachang road near Patrol Pump at Garubandha was reeling under knee-deep water on Sunday and a portion of the road has been washed away. The major part of Kalaigaon revenue circle was also under knee-deep water along with the Kalaigaon Town LP School on Sunday.
