Rongali Bihu celebrated with fervour in Lakhimpur and Demow

Rongali Bihu was celebrated in Lakhimpur Commerce College by students, teachers and office staff on Monday.

LAKHIMPUR: Rongali Bihu was celebrated in Lakhimpur Commerce College by students, teachers and office staff on Monday. The event was organized by the students’ union of the college in association with teaching and non-teaching staff. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the flag by Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika. This was followed by traditional sewa by students before the teachers seeking blessings ceremoniously. Traditional fun games like egg cracking (koni junj), tug of war and Husori were also organized on that occasion.

Teachers, non-teaching staff and students also participated in various competitions organized as parts of the day-long programme. Bihu dance, traditional snacks preparation and other competitions were also organized.

DEMOW: Along with the rest of the State, Rongali Bihu was celebrated in Demow and its adjoining areas with pomp and gaiety on April 14 and April 15. On Goru Bihu, people bathed their cattle and performed their rituals. On April 15, Manuh Bihu was celebrated. People were seen wearing new clothes and seeking the blessings of their elders and as a part of rituals the youths organized egg fight. The ‘Paila Baishak’ for the Bengali Community was also celebrated on April 15. Ganesh Puja was held on that day. Under the patronage of All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU), Demow Regional Committee and former ATASU leaders, the 7th annual Mukoli Bihu was organized in Demow Public Playground on April 15. The Bihu dancers and drummers performed at the Mukoli Bihu in Demow Public Playground on April 15. The Husori teams performed on that day. Moreover, the Bihu dancers from Demow of Sivasagar district performed at the mega Bihu Dance in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was organized by State Government at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on April 14.
