HAFLONG: Several organizations of Dima Hasao accorded a rousing welcome to Padma Shri awardee Dr Ramkuiwangbe Newme of Dima Hasao at the statue of Ranima Gaidinliu in presence of a huge gathering on Saturday. Dr Ramkuiwangbe Jeme born at Boro Henam, 28 km from Haflong, one of the oldest Jeme village of Dima Hasao district was awarded “Padma Shri”, one of the most prestigious and highest civilian award by President of India on Wednesday in New Delhi.

He was on the way to his residence at Lodi. He paid floral tributes to the statue of Ranima Gaidinliu at Boro Haflong where representatives of various organizations felicitated him with traditional scarves. He has received this award in the field of social work. He is one of the most active & dynamic leader of Heraka movement. He has dedicated his life for the uplift of society. He has established 10 primary schools and encouraged education for women. A spectacular carcade numbering more than hundreds vehicles escorted him to his residence at Lodi.

Talking to media Padma Shri Newme said it was a proud moment for the people of Dima Hasao and appreciated Modi-led government for awarding the people from far flung areas of Nort East India. He said, the youths should come forward for the cause of society. Their efforts will also be recognized someday.
