RPF of NF Railway rescued 12 persons, including minors

GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway successfully rescued 12 persons, including minors during routine checking at different trains and railway stations over N. F. Railway from April 18 to April 24. Moreover, the RPF of NF Railway also rescued 686 persons, including minor children and women during April, 2021 to March, 2022; whereas 83 persons were rescued from being trafficked. All of them were rescued from trains, railway premises and stations in different operations conducted over NF Railway. RPF also apprehended 24 persons during this period who were involved in human trafficking.

In an incident on April 22, acting on information that a lady ran away from home, a team of RPF escorting party along with Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) of Dimapur conducted a search for the lady in train no. 15909 DN (Avadh Assam Express) travelling towards Guwahati. They checked and found the lady inside a sleeper coach at Kamakhya railway station. The rescued lady was taken to RPF/Post/Kamakhya and the matter was informed to her family members. Later, the rescued lady was taken to Dimapur by RPF and handed over to her family members.

In an another incident on April 24, as per information received from Rail Madad, a team of RPF escorting party of Katihar rescued one minor girl from train no. 12423 DN (Rajdhani Express) while performing their duty. Later, the rescued girl was handed over to coordinator of Childline/Katihar for safe custody. On the same day, acting on an information RPF/Post/Katihar rescued three minor boys from Katihar station. Later, all the rescued minor boys were handed over to their parents.

RPF train escort parties and staff deployed at stations have been alerted and sensitized to be vigilant and on the lookout for suspected persons involved in human trafficking as well as the movement of children in a suspicious manner, travelling alone, without proper guardian etc.

A new initiative under 'Meri Saheli' has been formed over NF Railway and functioning round the clock to make aware women/child passengers about the safety/security and use of helpline no. 139 in case of any exigency, stated a press release.
