NAGAON: Around Rs 2 crores have been sanctioned this time for Nagaon division of the State Water Resources department for 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 under the head of emergency nature of work for emergency repair of river embankments ravaged by flood in the district.
Sources from the division claimed that the fund allocated to the division had already been distributed among the contractors who carried out the works directed by the authority concerned of the division, at the end of the session, that is, on or before March 31 last.
Sources said that for such works under the head of emergency nature of work needed no bid for tender rather a prior instruction of the higher authority of the division, could approve a contractor to carry out the work during the period of flood.
Significantly, following the distribution of the fund among a group of contractors in the division, a row over it was raised as the fund was being siphoned off by officials concerned.
While speaking to this correspondent here, Nitul Barman, technical officer of the division said that any work under the head of emergency nature of work, generally was being carried out at utmost flood ravaged areas during the period of flood after directive of the higher authority of the department concerned so that the damage could be repaired as early as possible and the people could be saved from further devastation would be caused by the next waves of possible flood.
