Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that Rs 3000 each would be deposited into the bank accounts of tea garden workers by November 15.
"As many as 6,33,411 accounts were opened and Rs 2,500 was being deposited into each account in 2017-18. Following year we continued with the scheme to cover another 75,000 plus workers taking the total number of accounts to 7,15,979. Now in 2020-21 we will check the status of the accounts and deposit Rs 3000 into all these accounts. I think it the number of accounts will go up to 8 lakh because that is the total number of tea garden workers we have," the minister said addressing a press conference here.
The government is working with strict timelines, the minister said. "It will be a huge satisfaction to know that the accounts which were opened post demonetisation is still functional," the minister said.
The state government is also working on making 120 high schools operational in the tea gardens of Assam.
