Rs 5 Lakh Aid Cheques Handed Over to Tingrai Grenade Blast Victims' Families

Digboi: Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, Assam Cabinet Minister Sanjay Kishan and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan on Sunday met the family members of Tingrai market blast victims Surajit Talukdar and Sanjit Singh and handed over the cheques of Rs 5 lakh each.

Talukdar and Singh were killed in a grenade attack that took place on May 14, Friday when un-identified miscreants hurled a grenade that fell outside a hardware shop in Digboi's Tingrai market in Tinsukia district of Assam killing Singh and Talukdar.

Talukdar was the sole bread earner of the family.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited the blast site and the family of Talukdar on Saturday, May 15. He had announced the one-time financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the bereaved family members.

The CM had also directed DGP Assam Police to get the blast investigated and stern and appropriate action be taken against those involved.

The Assam police have started the investigation. A cash reward of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for anyone who would share any info of the people involved in the blast. The police have shared photos of the two miscreants on a bike.

Banned militant outfit, ULFA-I has denied any involvement in the blast that had left two people seriously injured besides killing Talukdar and Singh. No one has taken the responsibility for the blast so far.

CM Sarma had also said that the state government would bear the medical cost for the treatment of the two injured persons.

The police are yet to share any information on if they have achieved any breakthrough in the case, though there were certain media reports stating that the police had made some arrests in connection with the blast.
