Rs 9.23 lakh seized, nakas put up across Hailakandi district

Rs 9.23 lakh cash have been seized by Flying Squad Team (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) in Hailakandi election district.

HAILAKANDI: Rs 9.23 lakh cash have been seized by Flying Squad Team (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) in Hailakandi election district. Disclosing this information, District Development Commissioner cum Officer In charge of MCC and Expenditure Monitoring Cell, Ranajeet Kumar Laskar said FST seized Rs 3 lakh at North Narainpur under 8 Algapur LAC at around 4 pm on Sunday.

On Saturday, SST seized Rs 1.50 lakh at Chandrapur bypass under 6 Hailakandi LAC. At this very spot SST seized Rs.4.73 lakh on March 4. Besides cash, 67 cartoons of IMFL and beer were seized by SST at Ramnathpur under 7 Katlicherra LAC on March 4.

Altogether 35 SSTs and 17 FSTs have been deployed in areas falling under three LACs in the election district. It may be mentioned that 55 polling stations fall under the jurisdiction of Cachar district. District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal has been keeping a close tab on the movement of cash and liquor and personally overseeing the several nakas put up by SST and FSTs at different locations to ensure free and fair election. On Sunday, Dahal along with SP, Pabindra Kumar Nath inspected a naka by SST at Dholeswari Point bordering Cachar district. During elections if a candidate carries more than Rs 50,000 he/she has to furnish proper documents.
