DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, which elected its new executive committee for 2020-2022, adopted a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the open session of its day-long biennial conference held on Sunday.
The programme got underway with hoisting of flag in the morning by outgoing president Arjun Baruah. After smriti tarpan by secretary Deben Deka, Prabhat Deka, former chairman of Doomdooma Town Committee (now Doomdooma Municipal Board) paid tribute to the hallowed memories of the five martyrs of the current struggle against C(A)A. The bulletin of Sakha Xahitya Xabha titled Patrika, published under the editorship of Debajit Mitra, was inaugurated by Dr Abdul Quadir, former Principal of Doomdooma College.
Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, which has entered its platinum jubilee year, was adjudged as the best branch by Tinisukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) and got the recognition of ‘Swarna Sakha’ (Golden Branch) of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX). Taranga Malla Baruah and Manoram Bora, vice-president and secretary respectively of TZXX, attended the conference as observers of the district body.
The conference elected its new executive committee for 2020-2022 with Bimala Baruah, former Headmistress of Doomdooma Girls’ High School, as president, renowned dramatist and actor Jay Surya Bora as vice-president and Deben Deka as secretary.
