Sale of earthen lamps affected due to COVID pandemic in Demow

With one day left for Diwali, family members of Hari Narayan Kumar, an inhabitant of Demow Kushal Path, are busy making earthen lamps.

DEMOW: With one day left for Diwali, family members of Hari Narayan Kumar, an inhabitant of Demow Kushal Path, are busy making earthen lamps. Jay Prakash Kumar, son of Hari Narayan Kumar, said that his family had been in this profession since more than 100 years in Demow and they were the first potters in Demow area. He rued the fact that due to the COVID pandemic, they did not get many orders for earthen lamps, unlike the previous years. During the lockdown their employees went back home. So now Jay and his brothers are making the earthen lamps.

They have prepared 70,000 earthen lamps since the last eight months. Jay said that sale of earthen lamps was not good on Dhanteras this year. The cost of a dozen small earthen lamps is Rs 20 and the cost of a big earthen lamp is Rs 10.
