Sampora river engulfs part of Ghilamora-Bilmukh PWD road in Lakhimpur district

Erosion caused by various rivers continues in Lakhimpur district and has wreaked havoc in different parts of the district.

LAKHIMPUR: Erosion caused by various rivers continues in Lakhimpur district and has wreaked havoc in different parts of the district.

Amid such a situation, erosion caused by Sampora river has posed tremendous threat at Ghilamora area under Dhakuakhana LAC and critically affected the Ghilamora-Bilmukh connecting PWD road. On Friday evening at around 5:00 pm, the river eroded away a part of the said road around one hundred metre away from the Gogamukh-Dhakuakha State Highway. Currently, communication to a larger area under Bilmukh, including Dakhin Gaon, Ga-Dangar Chuk, Blankleng, Kecheruguri, Konwar Gaon, has been disrupted through the collapsed road causing massive problem to the people living in the area.

Local people alleged that the Ghilamora-Bilmukh connecting PWD Road had been critically affected by the erosion caused by the Sampora river for last one year. They further alleged that the Dhakuakhana division of Water Resources Department and PWD had not implemented any effective measures to protect the road from being collapsed.
