NAGAON: The central committee of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, the leading socio-religious organization of Northeast India, today addressed a press conference here at its central head office at Nagaon and cleared its stand in connection with the ongoing controversy over the isolation of four families of the Moriani unit of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha in the Jorhat Jorhat district after they visited a wedding ceremony held in Ahom 'Saklong' tradition.
Babul Bora, secretary general of the central committee of the Sangha while addressing the press conference, said Srimanta Sankardev Sangha has no decision in the context of the 'Ahom Soklong' wedding tradition. If any local unit of the Sangha has initiated any such step, the central body is yet to review that, Bora said, adding that Srimanta Sankardev Sangha is not against any customs or traditions of any indigenous tribes or communities of the state so far, rather it is loyal to all.
He said that the largest socio-religious organization of the region would go ahead to solve the issue by negotiating with the concerned indigenous tribes or communities of the state. Srimanta Sankardev Sangha has no agenda against any tribes or communities of the state in its constitution as Srimanta Sankardev dreamt to make a larger Assam, he said.
