Sarupathar MLA takes stock of Ramdhenu Cooperative Society

GOLAGHAT: Taking stock of various agricultural activities at the Ramdhenu Cooperative Society, located at Salmora-Tup Grant under Sarupathar constituency of Golaghat district, the Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan discussed about the value-addition of agriculture and horticulture crops with the District Agriculture Officer of Golaghat Krishna Ranjan Saikia and Assistant Director of Agriculture and District Nodal Officer of World Bank-financed APART Project Ranjan Baruah.

Research Technician of APART Project Abhishek Singha was also present on the occasion. Later, addressing a public gathering, the Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan interacted with the progressive and enterprising youth farmers of the region. Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi’s call for making Bharat Atma Nirbhar, Phukan said that the Himanta Biswa Sarma led-Government is putting a lot of emphasis on agriculture and its allied sectors for making Assam’s economy self reliant and he also stressed on the need for the budding youngsters of Sarupathar constituency to dedicate themselves in agriculture.

Talking to the media persons, Sarupathar MLA said that Ramdhenu Cooperative Society has shown a bright example of agricultural success with local youths while generating lots of employment avenues.

The MLA also appreciated the District Agriculture Officer Krishna Ranjan Saikia, Assistant Director of Agriculture and District Nodal Officer of World Bank-financed APART Project Ranjan Baruah for their support towards Ramdhenu Cooperative Society. Phukan added, “Let us make Ramdhenu Cooperative Society a shining example of Golaghat district and prestige which will inspire our budding youngsters to work harder and prosper.” During his visit, Biswajit Phukan also participated in the ceremonial mustard sowing ceremony which was organised by the Ramdhenu Cooperative Society, in support of District Agriculture Office, Golaghat. According to the District Agriculture Officer, the mustard seeds (Variety: TS-38) were allotted to Ramdhenu Cooperative Society under the scheme National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO 2023-2024). The agriculture officer further added, “TS-38 is a short duration variety taking 90-95 days for harvesting with higher yield potential of 10-12 q/ha.” Head of the Department: Economics, Debraj Roy College and Social leader Devojit Phukan and promising social leaders of Golaghat district were also present during the ceremonial mustard sowing ceremony.
