TEZPUR: Acting on a tip-off, the prime accused and mastermind behind the attempted theft at the SBI ATM in Dekargaon area under Salonibari OP in Tezpur Sadar Police Station, which occurred in January last, was apprehended under Panbari PS in Chirang district. The arrested was identified as Nabir Islam, son of Safiyal Hoque resident of Tekaimari Sulikata village under Panabari police station in Chirang district. Talking to The Sentinel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Sonitpur Madhurima Das said that the accused had been absconding since the commission of the crime, and the police were able to locate and apprehend him with the help of the OC Panbari and police also recovered a vehicle bearing registration number HR 26 BE 8493, which was used in the act, has also been recovered in Kamalpur area. The arrested person is now in the custody of Salonibari OP under Tezpur Sadar Police Station in Sonitpur district. Further investigation is underway, and the accused is being interrogated, Madhurima added.
