BAKSA: Sanitation project 'Nirmal' -- a CSR initiative of the State Bank of India Foundation, SBI Card and SBI Green Fund, was inaugurated by Ghanashyam Das, Executive Member, Agriculture, BTR, in a programme held in Dekadong Village, near Doomni Tea Garden. Under the project, 57 newly constructed and renovated community toilets will be constructed. The CSR project was launched in 2020 in partnership with Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), a Guwahati-based NGO (Non-Government Organisation) to ensure access to better sanitation facilities for the tea garden communities living in Doomni Tea Estate in the Baksa district
Officials from the State Bank of India, senior members from the NGO, community leaders, etc were present during the inaugural programme. "I am happy to learn of this initiative. It focuses on safe hygiene practices which is such an important issue especially in our rural areas, " said Ghanashyam Das, Executive Member, Agriculture, BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region).
"Improving access to sanitation is critical to reducing the impact of various diseases. It is also crucial for the creation of an enabling environment that enhances the safety and dignity of rural communities. Through this project, we hope to empower the people living in the tea garden areas of Doomni," said Nawajyoti Sharma, the President of the Assam Centre for Rural Development. "Sanitation is important for the well-being of people, and it is the endeavour of State Bank of India Foundation through its various programmes to improve access to health, hygiene, female literacy, education, etc. We hope through this initiative of ours many people in this region will benefit," said Pranjal Das, Lead District Manager, State Bank of India, Baksa.
