SILCHAR: Even after 20 days of detention, the bail petition of Jogendra Pandey, the SBI Audit Officer was denied again in a Silchar court. Pandey was arrested on January 8 by Silchar police on charge of blackmailing and taking bribe from Kuldeep Dasgupta, branch manager of SBI Kabuganj branch whose body was found hanging inside the office on the previous day. Police arrested Pandey following an FIR by Aloka Dasgupta, Kunal's mother where she alleged that the audit officer was pressuring her son for undue gratification. Police found prima facie evidence against Pandey.

On Monday Silchar police submitted the case diary in the court. Pandey was presently under treatment inside Silchar jail. His family was reportedly trying to get bail for him on the health ground. However, police strongly opposed the bail petition on the ground that the accused being a high rank official might tamper evidence as the entire case revolves around internal audit of the bank. Pandey's family was reportedly trying to move Gauhati High Court.
