LAKHIMPUR: Three persons of Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district went missing in the Brahmaputra on June 25 and they have still not been traced till date.

They have been identified as Dimbeswar Chandi (40) of Bogoriguri, Gopal Doley (69) and Kiran Chunkrang (38) of Charanchuk Papung under Dhakuakhana Police Station.

As per report, they went to Dissangmukh of Sivasagar district from Tekeliphuta Ghat of Dhakuakhana in a hand-operated boat across the mighty Brahmaputra on June 24 in order to fetch cattle. They returned to their native land boarding the boat with five cattle next day. On their return voyage, all these three persons were lost along with the boat in the river route of the Brahmaputra between Tekeliphuta Ghat and Dissangmukh Ghat.

A storm had lashed the river on that day and hence the local people suspect that the boat might have capsized due to the impact of the storm. The relatives of the three persons launched a search operation for them in association with the local people since Wednesday afternoon but have not been successful due to cold wind and inclement weather.

On the other hand, the Dhakuakhana subdivisional administration launched search operation by SDRF on Thursday. SDRF team was also unable to locate the persons and boat despite their day-long frantic search. Dimbeswar Chandi is survived by only two sons after the death of his wife while Gopal Doley is survived by two young kids along with his wife. The incident has cast a pall of gloom in the area.
