Second Dhakuakhana Book Fair kicks off in a festive environment

In a view to continuing the intellectual revolution ahead, the second Dhakuakhana Book Fair kicked off in a festive environment on Sunday.

LAKHIMPUR: In a view to continuing the intellectual revolution ahead, the second Dhakuakhana Book Fair kicked off in a festive environment on Sunday. The six-day long event is organized at Tai Cultural Research and Development Center premises located in Dhakuakhana town.

On Sunday, the agenda of the extravaganza began with the unfurling of flag by book fair organizing committee president Dr. GirinGogoi. Then working presidentBidya Borah, vice president PuspaGogoi and secretary Ritu Kumar Das conducted the SmritiTarpan event.

Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr. Jeevan B formally inaugurated the book fair attending the inaugural session as chief guest.

"At present, the number of people, who study books, has receded due to the rampant use of mobiles and other similar gadgets. Especially, a major section of the new generation has lost the habit of studying books in order to earn advanced knowledge. Despite such circumstances, the people of Dhakuakhana have created a favourable environment for studying books by organizing book fair continuously. I have wholeheartedly admired this endeavour on the part of the people of the subdivision", stated Dr. Jeevan B while delivering the inaugural speech. Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Javir Rahul Suresh took part in the programme as guest of honour.

Followed by the inaugural session, prominent academician CheniramBaruah inaugurated the PurnanandaMazinderBaruah Memorial Stage and Auditorium of the event. Journalist ParanJyotiBaruah delivered a lecture on the life and contribution of the noted academician PurnanandaMazinderBaruah.

As a part of the first day agenda of the book fair, a book release programme was organized wherein a total of four books were released. Literary figure Ismail Hussain took part in the programme as chairperson and he released the Madhukari, the regular poetry publication of Dhakuakhana unit LekhikaSamarohSamiti, edited by Santana Baruah Borah. He also released the PanirAtmakotha, a poetry collection by poet MouchumiGogoiHatibaruah, the NoiporiyaCollag, a collection of articles by Dhakuakhana College professor IndiborBuragohain, the BhotiyoniSooror Gun-gunoni, a poetry collection by TulashiPrabha Das.

On the other hand, renowned poet Shiva PrashadGogoi released the HridayarGaan, a poetry collection by Jitul Khanikar, an emerging poet of Dhakuakhana.

Releasing the newly published books, Ismail Hussain said, "Dhakuakhana is not only advanced in academic and intellectual arena, but the subdivision of Lakhimpur district has also been spearheading revolutions in literary, cultural and sport sectors of the State. A number of writers from the subdivision have emerged in the literary arena of the State and they have managed to establish their existence with their literary talents". In the programme, vocal artistes RuchaDeka and BanamaliPayang presented songs.

Notably, various competition events, including quiz competition, will be held among the students at the book fair venue as part of second day agenda from 9:00 am. On the other hand, Rupendra Deva Goswami Memorial Get Together of Poets (KabiSammilan) will commence from 3:00 pm. It will be chaired by poet Mouchumi Gogoi Hatibaruah and inaugurated by poet Dr. Pranay Phukan.
