Second Mwihur International theatre festival gets underway

The week long 2nd Mwihur International Theatre Festival got underway from Wednesday at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar where 14 theatre teams from different states including team from England, Uruguay, Canada, Bangladesh and Australia are participating in the theatre festival.

KOKRAJHAR: The week long 2nd Mwihur International Theatre Festival got underway from Wednesday at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar where 14 theatre teams from different states including team from England, Uruguay, Canada, Bangladesh and Australia are participating in the theatre festival.

In his inaugural speech, the EM of BTC Wilson Hasda said it was a good initiative to organize the 2nd Mwihur International theatre festival in Kokrajhar under the aegis of Lwrgi Theatre Group and Northeast Cultural Centre, Dimapur with the support of Cinema and Theatre development of BTC. He said theatre was the mirror that reflects the socio-culture and tradition of the particular society besides connecting people from one place to another. He also said the hosting of International theatre festival and literary festivals was possible because of return of peace in BTC after BTR peace accord.

This year the theatre festival is organized in two venues at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar and Rowmari Auditorium Hall, Chirang. Organized by the Lwrgi Theatre Group supported by the Cinema & Theatre Department of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government and North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Dr. Prasanna Gogoi, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and Director of North East Cultural Centre, Dimapur.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by BTC EM Reo Reoa Narzihary, secretary of department of Cultural Affairs Ditakananda Hazarika and Joint Secretary Phami Brahma, renowned historian from West Bengal Hiracharan Narzinary, advisor of Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) Rahendra Brahma and other distinguished guests including directors of theatre from India and other countries.

The 1st show of the International theatre festival was “Sakondra” presented by Lwrgi Theatre Group, Kokrajhar. The theatre was directed by Sanjib Brahma and was written by Keshab Mashahary who is also the vice president of Lwrgi Theatre Group.
