TEZPUR: The Assam government has opened its second plasma Bank at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) on July 31.

Kushal Nath (40), Storekeeper cum clerk of TMCH, volunteered to donate his plasma to TMCH plasma Bank for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Dr Karuna Hazarika, Chief Superintendent cum Principal of TMCH, said that in this particular therapy, doctors transfuse convalescent plasma from someone who has recovered from COVID-19 into patients who are sick. Convalescent plasma is the liquid part of the blood from people who have recovered from COVID-19. The idea behind this principle is that recovered COVID-19 patients' plasma contains antibodies that might help fight the virus.

Taking to the Twitter handle, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "We are pleased as our second plasma Bank gets operational at TMCH. Kushal Nath, Storekeeper cum Clerk, deserves applauds for being the first donar at TMCH. His kind act shall inspire many others. "
