TINSUKIA: The District Magistrate of the Tinsukia District of Assam has issued a prohibitory order to prevent any damage to the environment as well as natural habitat during the ongoing picnic season. As such several activities have been banned under Section 144 of CrPC.
Prohibitory orders have been issued against the following actions in the district of Tinsukia.
- Use or dumping of non-biodegradable plastic and other plastic products in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
- Use of high-volume loudspeakers, DJ, PA Systems, mike etc in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
- Selling, buying and consumption of alcohol in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
- Littering and open defecation in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
- Drunk and Drive in any location in the district.
The authorities have also given the following reasons for issuing this order.
- Issuing of prohibitory orders is necessary for the maintenance of natural habitat in and around the picnic spots and river ghats in the district during the picnic season.
- The usage of plastic bags and other non-biodegradable articles at the picnic spots and river ghats under the Tinsukia district has created a serious problem of environmental pollution and is hazardous to the health of the public.
- The non-biodegradable plastic carry bags, bottles etc have not only contaminated soil and water bodies but have also created unhygienic conditions by clogging sewers, drains etc. which is injurious to public health.
- Consumption of alcohol is being carried out in the picnic spots and thereafter there is an increased case of drunk and driving in the district which may result in serious accidents
- Preventive steps are necessary to keep a check on the use of high-volume music, firecrackers, etc. and the illegal sale and consumption of liquor in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
The order issued by the District Magistrate comes to force with immediate effect until any further orders are issued.
