GUWAHATI: A section of the Lumding Forest land encroachers has dared the administration which prepared to continue the ongoing drive and categorically stated they would not free the land occupied by them.
The administration has deployed over five hundred security personnel to carry the eviction drive and served notices to the encroachers to leave the place. However, the encrochers in the Chakma Thedangnola area said that they would not leave the land.
"We live here for 30-40 years. We were born here. Even our grandfathers were born and lived here. We will not abide by the administration's order. Where we will go?", said a woman of the area.
The encrochers have been learned to be ready for defying the eviction order which may deteriorate the situation.
The Assam government has been carrying out an eviction drive against the government land encroachers across the state.
Earlier, in a bid to evict settlers from Lumding reserve forest in Hojai district, the Assam government has deployed 1000 police and CRPF personnel. Reportedly, the government will clear about 500 out of 1,410 hectares of encroached land of the forest on Monday and Tuesday.
As per Gauhati High Court Order, the government will clear the 1,410 hectares of encroached land in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, Hojai Deputy Commissioner Anupam Choudhary has said that presently the situation is normal in the area and nearly 99 per cent of the families have already left after they were counselled by the district administration to leave the place.
